Google Doodle honors the 60th birthday anniversary of the late actress Sridevi

Bhumika Mukherjee, a guest illustrator from Mumbai, created today's Doodle to honor Indian actress Sridevi's 60th birthday! Over the course of four decades and nearly three hundred films, Sridevi shone in sweeping dramas and comedies from Bollywood, frequently acting alone in a usually male-dominated field.

On this day in 1963, Sridevi was born in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. She developed a love for movies as a young child and began performing at the age of four in the Tamil film Kandhan Karunai. Sridevi gained proficiency in other South Indian languages, which gave her access to other Indian film industries. She performed in films from the Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam cinema industries early in her career, as well as other genres and industries.

Sridevi, a legendary Bollywood actress, was born on August 13th. On Sunday, Google Doodle unveiled a beautiful portrait of the adored actress as a tribute to her memories. At the young age of four, Sridevi began her remarkable career in Indian cinema, gracing the silver screen for more than four decades. Before passing away in 2018, she made one more appearance in the 2017 movie Mom.

As the lead character in K. Balachander's Moondru Mudichu, Sridevi attained widespread popularity in 1976. With a succession of hit movies like Guru and Sankarlal following the movie's popularity, she and her co-stars gained even more fame. Sridevi was at the time widely regarded as the leading lady of Tamil cinema, and Hindi-speaking film directors were also drawn to her magnetism onscreen.

Sridevi became a national celebrity and top box office draw in Bollywood after starring in the action comedy Himmatwala. Sridevi appeared in popular films during the following ten years, including the romantic drama Sadma and the comedy ChaalBaz. She continues to be one of the few Bollywood actresses in a historically male-dominated field to star in box-office hits without a male lead.

Early in the new millennium, Sridevi took a sabbatical from acting before appearing in Malini and Kaboom, two television series. Later, she became a member of the board of directors for the Asian Academy of Film & Television. After a protracted absence, she made her Bollywood comeback in 2012 with the box office triumph of English Vinglish. Additionally, she was given the Padma Shri award by the Indian government. The role of a ferociously protective mother in the 2017 crime thriller Mom earned Sridevi the National Film Award for best actress.

By opening up new doors for women to play leading roles in Indian cinema, Sridevi established her mark on the film industry for all time. She will be regarded as one of the best Indian performers in history.

Greetings on your birthday, Sridevi!
